Job Interview
The interview is very important because it is your time to convince the employer that you are the right person for the job. In an interview, the employer tries to decide if you have the skills and attitude they are looking for. Interviews can be intimidating. It is useful to spend some time practicing your interview skills.
1) Why would you like to work here?
Ex: "I’d like to gain experience in" or "My educational background lies in…"
Ex: I work well independently as well as in a team environment. I’m a fast learner. I’m responsible. I strive to achieve my goals. I can meet deadlines well. I’m reliable, hard-working. I can handle tough situations in a calm manner. I am knowledgeable with computers. I am highly active in my extra-curricular activities at school etc.
Ex: A big project you have completed or any awards you may have won in the past. Anything you think is an accomplishment.
Ex: I tend to procrastinate, but I am getting better.
Ex: I am a perfectionist, so I like to do things slowly, but well.
Ex: I had a difficult boss. He never listened to my questions or ideas. I made an appointment with him and told him I’d appreciate his cooperation more.
Ex: Fun to work with, positive, hard-working.
Ex: Say something relevant such as: lazy co-workers or uncooperative bosses. Don’t say: spiders or rainy days.
Ex: I see myself eventually moving up in a company, perhaps to a management position where I will be able to have more say and influence in moving the company forward.
9) Do you have any questions for us? (Make sure you ask something because that shows that you are interested in working there).
Ex: What is the most challenging part about working here?
10) If you are not sure how to answer a question, you can say: "Can we come back to that question?"
Avoid:
1) Talking too much
2) Showing up late
3) Asking about salary
4) Saying “Um, like or what?”
Remember:
1) Firm handshake
2) Eye contact
3) Explain after you say ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
